As Reno grows and evolves, we must ensure that our senior citizens—those who have laid the foundation of our community—are not left behind. Ward 3 is home to a diverse and thriving senior population, and my vision is to make Reno a place where our seniors can enjoy their golden years with dignity, security, and an active lifestyle.
For seniors, staying active and connected is essential for both physical and mental well-being. That’s why I’m passionate about creating spaces and opportunities for our elderly residents to thrive. Imagine seniors practicing Tai-Chi in our parks, attending community yoga sessions, or taking serene morning walks along safe, well-maintained paths. These activities are not just about staying healthy; they’re about fostering a sense of belonging and joy.
My 87-year-old mother is an inspiration to me when it comes to understanding the needs of seniors. Whether it’s access to reliable transportation, recreational activities, or the ability to safely navigate our neighborhoods, I’ve seen firsthand how small changes can make a big difference in a senior’s life.
We also need to ensure seniors feel safe in their homes and communities. By improving lighting in neighborhoods, increasing police visibility, and supporting programs that assist with home maintenance, we can help seniors age in place comfortably.
Additionally, affordable housing options and accessible health services must remain a top priority. Seniors should never have to worry about losing their homes or missing medical care due to financial constraints.
Reno’s seniors have given so much to this city—it’s time we give back. By investing in infrastructure, safety measures, and programs tailored to their needs, we can ensure that Reno becomes a model for senior-friendly living. Together, let’s build a community where our seniors can lead vibrant, fulfilling lives.
